Piccata is generally a dish made with veal or chicken that is sliced, dredged in flour, browned, then served in a sauce containing lemon juice, butter & capers. Did you know that a caper is the bud of a flower before it blooms? They grow all over the Mediterranean just like olives do. Caper buds are extremely bitter if eaten as a bud, so they are pickled and create a salty brine that mellows the bitterness.
My family love capers! We sometimes eat them on bagels with cream cheese and lox. So good. Thankfully I found some beautiful, imported capers at our local TJ Maxx, and decided to give this chicken piccata a try for the family. Giada's Chicken Piccata Recipe.
Overall, my dish had robust flavors of butter, lemon, parsley and the salty brine of the capers. All of that combined made my mouth pucker. A much needed zing! I doubled the recipe, and may have burned the butter slightly, as the sauce was a tinge more brown than I am used to. So be sure you are mindful not to burn the butter while you sauté the chicken. This was a delicious and tasty dish, and super easy to prep on a weeknight! I can't wait to give it another try.
Make sure you upload your pic and let us know how you do! Can’t wait to hear about it!
