Do you plan your Thanksgiving menu ahead? I do! You may want to consider planning too. I have learned that planning ahead gives me the opportunity to prep what I can before the actual holiday so I am not completely exhausted the day of. I also like to plan ahead so that I am able to inspire everyone to get involved in the kitchen. I have had some of my best conversations over holiday prep. Scratch meals make for great conversations. The time in the kitchen, inspiring everyone to have a role helps establish a stronger commitment to our family memories. I love it! We have some classics that are on our menu every year, so those are easy. BUT there are times I like to change things up and that can sometimes be a challenge. With a little planning and everyone's involvement, we can't go wrong!
Last week I put together this preliminary menu for Thanksgiving 2020. My husband and I generally host the holiday and it includes our family of five, more family and some friends. Typically our holiday can easily range between 10 - 30 guests. We love to entertain & share our home with friends and family! This year though, with the COVID cloud lingering on, we are planning for a more intimate holiday.
We typically start our day early with a #turkeytrot to support a local nonprofit and burn some calories.
The bird goes in the oven before we leave for that.
After the trot, the kids and I assemble the #oreoturkeys. A fun tradition that I look forward to.
We get messy.
We laugh. We make some pretty funny looking turkeys.
We then prepare the sides that need preparing and setup indoor corn hole.
Our gobbling begins around 12-1pm. We like to start off the day with a seasonal soup accompanied with some tasty appetizers. The actual turkey, sides, and homemade breads are showcased around 3-4pm. And after dinner we like to take a stroll in the neighborhood, weather permitting. Desserts make their sweet appearance by 7pm partnered with games, karaoke, & charades and a visit from more family & friends. Some laughter that helps to burn off some of those calories!
Overall, the day is well spent, filled with a lot of laughter and a heartfelt connection that we will miss tremendously this year. We gobble until we wobble on Thanksgiving. What do you do typically do for your Thanksgiving? How is this pandemic going to change your celebration this year?
